The Superbowl and Black History


As I anticipated the commercials in the Superbowl, I was looking mostly for humor. However, this CocaCola commercial was amazing. Not only did it help bring awareness to February as black history month, but it sparked an even greater conversation topic: a Superbowl first. Never have two black coaches led their teams into the Superbowl.

    Yes, I thought the inclusion of this ad was wonderful, as I knew where it was going on the first frame.

    But it fell short by not pointing out why “especially today” since a lot of the 63% of American homes that were tuned into the Super Bowl don’t closely follow football and probably didn’t know why “especially today” black history should be celebrated.
